Friends of Narconon President's Briefing -- Issue 82   PDF  Print  Email

What Does Higher Education Mean?

When we talk about kids and drugs our tendency is to think about the young teenagers in school, growing up in a drug culture.

What may be overlooked is what's happening with our "Grown Up" teenagers who have moved onto college?

Many are lucky to even graduate high school, let alone make it to college.

However, for those kids who do make it to a college, "Higher Education" takes on a whole new meaning.

What concerns me the most about this group of young adults is that they are the ones headed for leadership positions in the future.

They are essentially the ones who will be running things in the years to come.

So what can we say about the mind set of these young adults?

How are things going with kids in college?

One shocking report reveals that there is more to the word "higher" than "Higher Education" would lead you to believe!

A new report by The National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University revealed some shocking statistics:

A new report by The National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University revealed some shocking statistics:

* 49% percent (3.8 million) of full time college students binge drink and/or abuse prescription and illegal drugs

And between 1993 and 2005 the proportion of students abusing prescription drugs increased:
* 343% increase in use of opioids like Percocet, Vicodin and OxyContin
* 93 % increase in abuse of stimulants like Ritalin and Adderall
* 450% increase in abuse of tranquilizers like Xanax and Valium
* 225% increase in abuse of sedatives like Nembutal and Seconal

Half of our potential future leaders are using drugs.

What does that say to the situation in society at large?

More importantly, ask yourself "What can "I" do about this runaway train called drug abuse?"

That is the question we ask everyday here at Friends of Narconon.

It is something we must all be concerned with.

These statistics clearly show that the "Marketing" of drugs at all levels is very heavy.

With concepts like "Good Drugs" and "Bad Drugs" being taught to our kids, it is no wonder that the lines have been completely blurred on the subject of drugs. In other words "Which are the good drugs?".

Well I ask you, are there any "Good Drugs"?

I am not talking about medical emergency situations where a specific type of medication can help save someone's life.

I am talking about prescription and street drugs.

However in order to answer this question, we must first answer the most obvious question: "What is a drug"?

That is what our Truth About Drugs video series is doing now.

Providing students with factual and up-to-date information on the subject of drugs has resulted in amazing results in changing their minds and attitudes about drugs, for the better.

So when you ask this question "What can I do?" the answer is simple - sponsor schools in your area to receive our Truth About Drugs Educators' Kits -- this is something you can actually do right now that will affect the future of kids in your area today!

So don't wait, sponsor your schools today!
