Friends of Narconon President's Briefing -- Issue 85   PDF  Print  Email

What Kind of Education Do Your Kids Get?

The idea behind sending kids to school is that you are providing them with much needed education.

In fact, you know they need education.

Yet, as you look around and see the escalating drug problem among teenagers today, one has to ask "Ok, what kind of education are my kids getting?".

While this does not represent all schools have to offer, it sheds light on how it is that kids might become confused, and as such they will often turn to
drugs.

In 1985 The U.S. Department of Education, through the Secretary's Discretionary Fund under Secretary William Bennett, approved the promotion of and funding for development of a character education program by the Thomas Jefferson Research Center (TJRC) of Pasadena, California.

The TJRC's federally funded demonstration "character education" program included "Personal Responsibility Skills and Ethical Decision-Making."

The promotional literature for the TJRC's middle and high school Achievement Skills programs and the text of the teacher's manual for its middle school Achievement Skills program (1984) explicitly stated that "the basis for the programs lies in the motivational theories of [Abraham] Maslow."(A psychologist who studied monkeys)

Early in the semester-long program, students are told that "we are going to study some psychology. We are going to study our selves or our minds.

Each of you is going to get a chance to look at yourself as if you were a psychologist."

Repeatedly throughout the program, students are exposed to self-hypnosis, guided imagery, visualization techniques, and relaxation therapy.

The middle school Achievement Skills program also utilized what are psychotherapy techniques: role playing, open-ended questions, and moral dilemmas.

Just as theories like these have been promoted in our schools, so has the wide spread mis-information about drugs.

Many drug dealers have a wide array of sales tools at their disposal to use against unsuspecting kids.

For example; girls as sales agents, positive magazine articles, pretending to be a friend and more.

These ares some powerful influences that our youth are exposed to.

One of the best ways to arm our youth against this massive arsenal of "salesmanship" is to educate them on the real truth about drugs.

Friends of Narconon provides laser precise information on the truth about drugs to youth all over the United States and other parts of the world.

More than 7 million kids have participated in our video program and the results speak for themselves.

We need your help to continue our effort to reach even more kids.

There are over 60 Million school aged kids in America alone.

We cannot afford to wait before it is too late!
