Have You Had a Coke Lately? Can you remember when "lets get a coke" meant having a soda? Today this phrase takes on a whole new meaning for kids. We have gone way past the age of innocence in our society these days. The chilling reality of all this is that kids today are subject to some of the most insidious marketing minds available. Couple this with the rapid and easy access to information and it is easy to see why we are all sitting on a social time bomb. Coke has taken on a new meaning with kids. Some of you may know this, but there is a thing called "Kiddie Coke" on the streets today. Or if you are a kid you will know this by terms like - Kibbles and Bits, Kiddy Cocaine, Pineapple, Skippy, Smarties, Vitamin R, West Coast - to name a few. These are simply marketing terms created to sell "Ritalin" to kids on the streets. Ritalin is an addictive stimulant which is prescribed for "hyperactivity". According to the National Household Survey on Drug Abuse (now the NSDUH); It would seem that the corrupt marketing minds are being very effective at getting kids to try drugs. I would like to point out that the very techniques drug dealers use to convince kids to take drugs are the same that can be used to keep kids from taking drugs. One of the main differences however is providing the truth about drugs, instead of lies and mis-information. This is a sure way to get kids to think for themselves and make the right decisions not to do drugs. That is what we do here at Friends of Narconon. We provide kids with the Truth About Drugs in a way they can relate to. So next time you think about having a coke, think about what that means to many kids today and what you can do to help change that. Sponsor schools to get our popular "Educators' Kits" featuring videos that provide the real truth about drugs that kids can rely on. Help us change some minds and save some lives today! Don't wait!
