So Who Do You Believe? The Drug Policy Alliance continues to insist that Marijuana is safe and should be used, even medically. Here is what they are now saying on their web site: "Marijuana has been shown to be effective in reducing the nausea induced by cancer chemotherapy, stimulating appetite in AIDS patients, and reducing intra-ocular pressure in people with glaucoma. "There is also appreciable evidence that marijuana reduces muscle spasticity in patients with neurological disorders. "A synthetic capsule is available by prescription, but it is not as effective as smoked marijuana for many patients. "Pure THC [the active ingredient in marijuana] may also produce more unpleasant psychoactive side effects than smoked marijuana. "Many people use marijuana as a medicine today, despite its illegality. In doing so, they risk arrest and imprisonment." This is in direct conflict with what the National Institute on Drug Abuse (a government agency) says: "...smoking marijuana is difficult to justify medically because the amount of THC in marijuana is not always consistent. "It would be difficult—if not impossible—to come up with a safe and effective use of the drug because you could never be sure how much THC you were getting. "Moreover, the negative effects of marijuana smoke on the lungs will offset the helpfulness of smoked marijuana..." So who do you believe? What does Marijuana really do? What is the TRUTH about it? And what should you tell the youth in your life?? With decades of experience, the staff of the Narconon Program know the answers to these questions, and more. If you listen to what the Drug Policy Alliance has to say, we would have legalized, government-controlled use of marijuana. That is not a message we should be sending to our youth! Not if we want a drug-free society! What is important to know is that marijuana, along with alcohol, is one of the most accessible drugs today. Marijuana and alcohol are the drugs most addicts started out with, when they were in their teens! The question is, how do we keep kids from buying into this false information? And how do we, as parents, deal with the situation? The answer is, get educated. At Friends of Narconon we have a helpful product to get you started. Our DVD - Marijuana The Myth, has three excellent features on it: Marijuana The Myth, Why Parents Are the Last to Know? and Why Kids Take drugs. If you have not watched these features yet, then I urge you to do so. You will be amazed at what you DIDN'T know. If you have watched them, then I suggest you get a copy for a friend or loved one. Our survey results show that once educated, kids can make the correct decision - to NOT try drugs. Furthermore, the more a parent is educated, the less likely they are to be fooled and miss the signs of danger in their kids. You will learn how to spot the hidden signs and symptoms of drug use and know how to tackle this problem head on, before it gets out of control.
