Friends of Narconon President's Briefing--Issue 37   PDF  Print  Email
There'll never be a drug-free society... (they say)

Since people ARE going to use drugs no matter what you do, says a group called the Drug Policy Alliance, let's help them use drugs safely. They call this approach "Harm Reduction."

The following is taken from their web site:

"Harm reduction rests on several basic assumptions. A basic tenet of harm reduction is that there has never been, there isn't now, and never will be a drug-free society.

"A harm reduction approach acknowledges that there is no ultimate solution to the problem of drugs in a free society, and that many different interventions may work. Those interventions should be based on science, compassion, health and human rights.

"Because some drugs, such as marijuana, have proven medicinal uses, a harm reduction strategy not only seeks to reduce the harm that drugs cause, but also to maximize their potential benefits."

Potential benefits? Of course, if you are lying on the operating table, you'd undoubtedly welcome a suitable drug to help you in that situation.

However, this message of marijuana having "medicinal uses" is not something we should be teaching our children!

More to the point, drugs are in fact poisons. My personal experience has been that once kids know that, they are less likely to want to try them.

How are we expected to create a drug-free society with backward thinking like "...never will be a drug-free society"?

The Drug Policy Alliance further explains on its web site:

"Finally, harm reduction seeks to restore basic human dignity to dealing with the disease of addiction."

Disease? Narconon has thousands of success stories which prove that drug addiction is NOT a disease.

In fact, I am living proof of it - I graduated the Narconon program 27 years ago!

The real solution is to bring the truth about drugs to kids at an EARLY age, so they can make the right decisions.

Had I had effective drug education growing up, I would have never needed the Narconon program. And that is true of most drug addicts.

The best way to teach others is to get educated on the subject yourself. That is what our Marijuana The Myth DVD will do for you.

You will find out what to do when you know someone who has a drug problem, how to handle your kids if you find out they are using drugs and most importantly, this is a DVD you can watch with your kids and this will help create a platform to communicate from.

I urge you to take the steps now and ensure that the people you love don't fall for "Harm Reduction." Contact Sara Jonic at Friends of Narconon today (1-800-882-6862) to get your copy of Marijuana The Myth DVD ($47) or to sponsor a school with our Educator's Kit ($200).

Get the knowledge to help us all change minds and save lives!

Sincerely,
