Is It Really Dad's Fault? What do you say? Are you sure they are not using drugs now? I just reviewed recent survey data released by the Partnership for a Drug-Free America® which reports that fathers talk less often with their children about drugs than do mothers. The data was drawn from the Partnership's latest Partnership Attitude Tracking Study (PATS). Research has shown drug use is lower among teens who report learning a lot about the risks of drugs at home. Less than half of fathers report believing that if their child smokes marijuana, they will face consequences such as difficulty coping with life's problems and getting along with family. Do you recall my earlier briefing where we talked about the "Thought Education" taking place in school? You know, the "Good Drugs/Bad Drugs" information. Well, years later we have fathers showing a reasonable attitude toward drugs. So what is all this leading up to? Communication! It is very critical for parents to take an active roll in communicating to their kids about drugs. Our newest DVD's have great information for parents. It is the first step you must take in talking to kids about drugs--get educated yourself. You need this information. So call 800-882-6862 and ask for Donna or Sara and get your DVD sent to you. You'll get valuable information on how to spot signs of drug use and how to go about handling it. |
