The New Age of Drug Education

If you look over the past 10 years, many of you may recognize names like DARE or Partnership for A Drug Free America.

DARE was once heavily supported with funding and permeated the school system across America. So what went wrong?

I mean, when you think about it, the police department had a built-in delivery team all over the country. Yet their program is now relegated to something that is ineffective.

Trust me, that is not because the police did not try to help. The simple fact of the matter is that they did not have the technology to deliver effectively.

So what is the reality of exporting our drug education technology, at a fast enough rate, to make a difference? All in all it would take more than 6,000 drug education staff to reach every kid in the USA just once a year. This is the reality of the situation as it exists right now. That does not count other countries.

During our past 10 years here at Friends of Narconon we've gotten lots of feedback from teachers about our Narconon Drug Education Video Program. As a result, a few things have come to light.

In situations where a teacher was not so willing to book a live Narconon presenter, they were sent a video kit and immediately after that they were very interested in having a live lecturer come in, no questions asked.

Since Friends of Narconon started it's video program to schools we have reached over 6 million kids nationwide. We have also generated more reach for live lectures than can be fulfilled at this time.

By getting the teachers involved and providing them with easy-to-use materials, they have become part of our army of drug education delivery personnel.

When you step back and look at it, this is really a New Age in Drug Education. By providing up-to-date and helpful information in video form, we are able to reach a much larger audience faster than ever before.

This in turn is creating a large demand for our live lecturers. Once the students and teachers see how good our information is, they want more and the live presenter becomes a very special event for them.

Just to illustrate the effects of this, I recently got a call from Mr. Bobby Wiggins and JT Daley who are working on a Narconon Science Study in Hawaii. They showed the rough cut of our new film Ecstasy: The Real Story to a group of detention home students. These are like the roughest kids.

Bobby and JT both called up completely ecstatic. They told me that in all their years of doing presentations, they had never gotten surveys from students such as the ones they got from these kids after they watched this new video.

Here is just a sample of what the surveys showed after watching the rough cut of Ecstasy: The Real Story Part 1:

"That had to have been the best drug education video I have seen. There were lots of details, examples, and most of all, life stories. I think that the real catcher in a documentary or video, etc., is the personal experiences." High School Student

"I have a lot of friends that sell drugs and now that I know that they don't care, man, then why the hell should I care or buy?" High School Student

"Now I don't want to try "E" (Ecstasy) ever again. It does a lot of damage to your body. I now know more about drugs and advertising of them." High School Student

As you can see, these kids really get hard hitting data. So it goes without saying that by stepping up our efforts to get this video program into every school, we can actually save lives. At the end of the day, that is what we are working for--Changing Minds - Saving Lives.

Sincerely,
