Alcohol Can be a Dangerous Drug

Underage drinking costs the United States more than $58 billion every year. Also, teens that drink are 50 times more likely to use cocaine than teens who never consume alcohol.
These are two very scary statistics, yet many people don't even consider alcohol a drug. Alcohol is very much a drug and when parents treat it lightly or even encourage their children to drink it is a mistake.

Many experts consider alcohol a gateway to further drug use but alcohol all by itself can be very dangerous and has ruined many, many lives. Just as all drugs are poisons so is alcohol a poison. If it is taken in large enough quantities it can kill you. Even so it can impair you greatly and has caused many people to have car accidents ending in their own death and or the death of another, often innocent, person.

Again, just like with any drug alcohol can be very addictive. When a person develops an alcohol addiction he burns up his body's reserves of vitamins and his entire immune system becomes weakened. Besides the harm done by the alcohol you are getting the additional harm by opening up the body to other illnesses.

After a person has a drinking binge he will feel "hung-over". He'll feel miserable in every way. What has happened is that the alcohol burned up his vitamin supply in his body and the deficiency will cause him to feel tired or sick and usually have a headache.

If a person does this type of thing often enough he will develop both a physical and psychological addiction to the alcohol. When he gets to that point he will become not only a burden to himself but others as well. Many times when a person has an alcohol addiction it will take longer for himself and others to acknowledge there is a problem because alcohol is much more socially acceptable than most other drugs.

When it gets to this point many people will require rehab because there is too much damage for the person to handle it and recover without help. Usually, but not always it will be necessary for friends or family to push the addict into rehab because addicts will have very low confront by this time about his life in general and the plain hard truth is he is likely to need the help.

Don't let the addict of any age become a statistic similar to ones mentioned in the beginning of this article. They can be helped.

Methamphetamines are called the Devil's drug or Hitler's revenge for good reason. While it is uncomfortable to face the evils of this drug, life for methamphetamine users and their families, is far more uncomfortable if the drug use does not stop. Life will become a living hell.Like it or not, families must deal with the hard core facts of methamphetamine abuse and the trail of devastation left behind if we are to prevent the coming of a new Ice Age. Inform yourself of these basic facts about methamphetamines as written below. And remember, if you are affected by this drug in any way, we can help. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------What are Methamphetamines?Methamphetamines have stimulant properties similar to adrenaline. They stimulate the central nervous system by creating toxic effects on nerve terminals and are extremely addictive. Methamphetamines may be known as meth, crank, glass, speed, crystal, ice, batu, chalk, or zin. They are produced and sold illegally in pill form, capsules, powder and chunks. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------The Effects and Signs of Methamphetamine UseIf you see any of these symptoms in a family member, get help immediately. Anxiety, stress and paranoia Auditory and visual hallucination Confusion Crashing (Sleeping for longer period of time.) Decreased appetite leading to severe weight loss and emaciation Dizziness Glassy eyes and large pupils High doses can elevate body temperature to dangerous, sometime lethal, levels as can cause convulsion. Irritability and aggressive behavior - or downright mean. Long catatonic like sleep after long periods of being awake Nervous physical activity (scratching) Paraphernalia (razor blades, mirrors, straws, syringes, heated spoons, surgical tubing) Profuse sweating at inappropriate times Rapid heart rate - sometimes over 180 per minute Rotting teeth Sensitivity to noise Sores all over the body Tremors or convulsions In an effort to intensify the desired effects, users may take higher does of the drug, take more frequently, or change their method of drug intake. In some cases, methamphetamine users forego food and sleep while indulging in a meth run. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------Withdrawalmore...

Fentanyl

The following information was taken from Fetanyl, the Last Straw by Linda Logdbergh, PHD, published in Recovery Solutions 6th edition 770-516-8688. The headline from a Detroit, Michigan, newspaper reads, A Deadly Heroin Mixture is Claiming Dozens of Lives. [NY Times May 28, 2006] The lives were those of 64 people in Detroit, Michigan; 28 people in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and 30 people in Chicago, Illinois. [ASAM document; http://www.detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060610/METRO/606100344/1003 (http://www.detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060610/METRO/606100344/1003)] All of these individuals had injected themselves with fentanyl, a drug that is chemically related to morphine and heroin but 50-80 times more powerful than morphine. Fentanyl is a synthetic narcotic prescribed by doctors to relieve severe pain caused by diseases such as metastatic cancer. It is obtained illegally by extracting the drug from the pain-relieving patches designed for patients in severe pain. It is also available in lozenge or powder form. According to Ms. Logdbergh, As yet, the police have not yet discovered the pipeline through which fentanyl flows form illegal manufacturer to user, and therefore can not interrupt it. An overdose of fentanyl (or other opioids) can cause fatal hypoventilation , in the words of doctors. In the words of ordinary people, overdosing on these drugs can cause the user to stop breathing. A person who abuses fentanyl is truly just one breath away from the last great experience of his life. more...

Can you recall your thoughts about alcohol and other drugs when you were a child? Were you curious about drinking, because the cool kids drank? Were you trying to fit in? Would you have felt left out had you not participated? Or did it seem impossible to get close to that special boy or girl without being involved with the drug scene ? Kids today face similar situations. Even if your child is in a private school, this does not keep them away from others who use drugs/alcohol. Moreover, with TV, movies and the Internet, they are exposed to much more information than we were. Here are some interesting survey results that shed light on kids' awareness of today's drug problem: · 62 percent say more kids are using marijuana at school than in the past;· 57 percent believe most people will try marijuana sometime;· 51 percent feel many rock, rap and movie/TV stars make drugs seem cool ;· 63 percent believe there will always be drugs in their communities. This last one is alarming! Over half the kids surveyed think drugs are here to stay! More........

Dear Friends,Last week a Narconon graduate and I were scheduled to appear on a local TV show to educate families on the signs of drug abuse. On the way to the station, I decided that it would be helpful to the viewers if I could show some actual drug paraphernalia. Simple items like coke cans, spoons, light bulbs and straws found in odd places around the home could signal drug abuse. Other paraphernalia items that I wanted to show, like crack pipes, blunts and scales I thought would be harder to get. My companion suggested that we could get everything we needed, including the “harder to get items” at a convenience store. We stopped at the convenient store across the street from the TV station. There was also a large church on the street, which I thought might diminish the possibility of buying paraphernalia, but this wasn’t the case. The light bulb, brillo pad, straw and soda can were easy for me to buy, without feeling conspicuous. Not being well versed in the purchasing of the other items, I asked the graduate to help. He requested some items and the individual behind the counter seemed to give the once over to check if we were OK. He then pulled the requested paraphernalia out – blunts, crack pipe and some papers. We also bought a lighter that was really a torch. I was amazed that we were ...

He's in 8th grade in Camarillo, Texas. He just saw the Friends of Narconon(r) drug education video presentation Marijuana The Myth .After seeing this film - he decided to quit smoking pot. Here's what he had to say: Did your thoughts about drugs change after watching the video? If yes, how did they change? Yes. It made me think of how stupid it is to smoke (even tough I never believed it) and it taught me I needed to stop getting high. How can you use what you learned? Now I know more about this drug, I'm going to use it for myself and share it with my cuzin who is majorly hooked. What would you like to say to the person who donated this video to your school? Thank you for the video...It really helped me a lot. I appreciate it. We get these wins repeatedly at Friends of Narconon. Our program is in over 6700 US schools and has been seen by over 7 million kids.Call 1-800-882-6862 for more information on the program or to find out how you can sponsor your children's school, your niece and/or nephew's schools or your Alma Mater.
Every Day 4,700 Kids Smoke Pot for the First Time...Will your kid be next? Today's drug culture teaches kids that:Drugs are goodThere is no real harm in using drugsDrugs only stay in the body for 30 daysThis false information is what fosters temptation and ultimately leads to drug addiction. The time to act is NOW, before drug addiction becomes a problem. Research shows that spending time with your kids and talking to them about drugs are proven strategies for preventing drug abuse. But what will you say when they ask questions like... Didn't you do drugs back when you were young? What is alcohol made from? What is a drug? Isn't it medicine? Need answers?

I was convinced I was doomed... Before coming to Narconon Arrowhead I was convinced I was doomed to a life stuck in the vicious cycle of relapse. I couldn't accept the fact that not only could I not stop using drugs but also that other treatments just didn't work. After a short stint in in-patient treatment (approximately 21 days), followed by outpatient group counseling and the usual meetings I was still stuck in a terrible place. I was somehow able to stop for awhile but each relapse was worse than the time before. It became apparent I was either going to live or DIE.
